On October 3, 2016, StandardVision launches a new site-specific animated public art video by Ouida Angelica Biddle and Miles Martinez entitled ’Visible Night Life’ for the latest installment in the SV Presents series; a new art initiative showcasing the work of innovative visual artists working within the community.
Inspired by Los Angeles’ unique patches of development, which abruptly give way to both wilderness and wildness, ‘Visible Night Life’ will play at the top of every hour on the Marriott Courtyard Hotel in downtown, Los Angeles. Biddle and Martinez begin ‘Visible Night Life’ with an architectural visualization of the site and then use VFX to break through immediate reality by showing our chaotic habitat giving way to flowing abstractions of nature and light.
Ouida Angelica Biddle is an architect-artist who applies technology used in design and commercial industries to stories about the production of material reality. She has created videos and installations for Eyebeam, the Nordic House in Iceland, PIN- UP Magazine, DIS Magazine, Suzanne Geiss Gallery, Museum of Art and Design New York, and Storefront for Art and Architecture. She graduated from Sci Arc in 2005.
Miles Martinez is an artist and DJ based in Los Angeles, CA working in computer graphics, music, and video. His animated videos have been used in live performances and installations in nightclubs, galleries and museums such as MOCA, the Getty Center, MOMA PS1, and MUMOK Vienna. He earned a BFA at CalArts in 2008.
Both artists are collaborators with DLS Solution, an exhibition think tank focused on light and sound environments. Blurring the boundaries between light industry and deep content production, DLS Solution is a platform for collaboration through corporate identity dissolution. It’s list of contributors also include Daniela Anastassiou, Cayetano Ferrer, Nate Gonzales Hess, Jacqueline Gordon, Jonathan Mandabach, Ashland Mines and Daniel Pineda. DLS Solution is informed by rapid changes in aesthetics technology and seeks to modify existing frameworks to create new input/output circuitry for form and content. Past events and exhibitions by DLS Solution have taken place at Satellite Space in Santa Monica, and MOCA, Human Resources, and the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles.
Starting October 3rd, Visible Night Life will play at the top of the hour every hour from 5pm -2am for the duration of a month. The Marriott Courtyard Screen is located at 901 W. Olympic Blvd in the heart of Downtown, Los Angeles.
To celebrate the occasion, we are gathering with the artists and anyone else who would like to join in on the corner of Olympic Ave. and Francisco St. beneath the exhibition from 8p.m.-midnight on Saturday night, the 8th of October. The art will be easily visible from anywhere in the area, thus one can sit and enjoy the view from one of the nearby dining establishments.
